Slow Cooker Ravioli Lasagna
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage (choose mild or spicy based on your preference)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24-ounce) jar of marinara sauce (or your favorite pasta sauce)
- 1 (25-ounce) package of frozen cheese ravioli (do not thaw)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Slow Cooker
- Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray or line it with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and makes cleanup easier.
2. Cook the Meat Mixture
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up into crumbles with a spatula. Cook until no longer pink.
- Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Stir well and cook for another 3-5 minutes until the onion is softened and translucent.
- Drain any excess fat to avoid greasy lasagna layers.
3. Start Layering
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the greased slow cooker to prevent sticking and to build the first layer of flavor.
- Place a single layer of frozen ravioli over the sauce, arranging them so they cover the bottom evenly.
- Spoon a portion of the cooked meat mixture evenly over the ravioli.
- Sprinkle a generous handful of shredded mozzarella cheese and a portion of grated Parmesan cheese over the meat.
- Repeat these layers (sauce, ravioli, meat, cheese) until all ingredients are used up, ensuring you finish with a layer of cheese on top.
4. Season the Top Layer
- Sprinkle the dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper over the final layer of cheese to add extra flavor.
5. Cook the Lasagna
- Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set it to low heat.
- Cook for 4-6 hours, or until the ravioli is tender, the cheese is melted, and the dish is bubbly.
- Avoid opening the lid during cooking to maintain consistent heat and ensure even cooking.
6. Serve and Garnish
- Once cooked, turn off the slow cooker and let the lasagna sit for 5-10 minutes to set, making it easier to serve.
- Use a large spoon or spatula to scoop portions directly from the slow cooker.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a pop of color and added freshness.
